Welcome to the Avery Theater

Avery Movie Theater
495 State Street, Garner Iowa

Owned by the non-profit corporation, Garner Main Street, Inc., the Avery Theater is destined to again be an entertainment venue for residents of Hancock County and the surrounding areas. Originally opened as a single-screen movie theater in March 1931, the 21st Century version is scheduled to be operational in March 2012, on the 81st Anniversary of it’s original Grand Opening.

Still a single-screen movie venue, the new Avery will also be a multi-media center where guests can view satellite programming, gather for community presentations, or perhaps participate in a large-screen version of an inter-active video game experience.

The overall goal is to restore the historic single-screen movie theater back to its original purpose. To accomplish this, the project has been divided into three major phases. Phase I includes researching the building's history, acquiring the property and stabilizing the structure. After the successful completion of Phase I, we are now into Phase II which involves the construction of the interior of the building. The third and final phase will include the installation of specialized equipment for the operation of the theater.
